Leopard cubs weigh roughly 17 to 21 ounces (500 to 600 grams) at birth, they blind and almost hairless. Their eyes open when they are about a week old. They depend on their mother for food and do not leave the den until they are 3 months old. At 12 to18 months, the cubs are ready to live on their own.

The babies are born blind, with closed eyes. When the cubs open their eyes after a few days, they are a brilliant blue color. Similar to other cat species, their eyes change to yellow after they are a few months old.
