Minecraft 1.17 snapshot 21w03a introduces the Glow Squid that won the mob vote at Minecraft Live 2020 and will be added in the Minecraft 1.17 Caves and Cliffs update!

The Glow Squid is a well-lit, glow squids drop glow ink sacs. Glowing ink sacs can be used on signs to make the text super visible and can be crafted into glow item frames by combining a glow ink sac with an item frame in a crafting table. Axolotls will attack any glow squid they see.

Minecraft 1.17 snapshot 21w03a also introduces Lichen, a dim light source that will generate in Minecraft .17 caves. Lichen can be picked up using shears. Bonemeal can be used to spread Lichen along block surfaces.
