Heltec LoRa ESP32 and GPS Module Range Test.
I have mashed up the TinyGPS++ DeviceExample sketch with the Heltec OLED_LoRa_Sender sketch. I am transmitting latitude, longitude, altitude, time and a packet count. Let's take these out for a range test.
What I am coming to realize is in an urban setting it is hard for me to find a scenario with line of site for a suitable distance. Low ground behind a chain link fence definitely blocks the signal. The antenna on the receiver is somewhat directional. Point it straight towards the transmitter to get a stronger signal.
I got to the last leg of the trail where it drops out of line of site the rest of the way. You can see the packet count on the receiver is still going up at this point. My TTGO T-Watch 2020 V2 with GPS shows my current position. Let's put the two coordinates and the map. So this is how far I got in this range test. Compare it with some of my other range test videos. I will continue range testing with different antennas and locations with more space that is still line of site.
Stay tuned and Thank you very much.
