Indonesia’s “pawang hujan”, or rain shamans, have been hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic, as lockdown regulations limited or outright banned the kinds of large outdoor events they are usually hired to keep dry. The shamans offer their services to hosts of outdoor events, promising to keep the rains at bay through a mystical ceremony believed to have been passed down through generations. Now, with coronavirus restrictions lifted, the rain shamans are back, just in time for the start of the rainy season.
