I needed some 1940s style trousers in my vintage inspired capsule wardrobe, I felt, so I slightly adapted my trouser block to fit in with the rest of the items in the collection. I have created and adapted this sewing pattern over time to fit me the way I like so this was just the latest iteration. I can't recommend highly enough the idea of creating some basic pattern that work for you and then just adapting them with different details to make different looks.

I have used this trouser pattern to make a couple of high waisted trousers and some low waisted trousers and some overalls but this was the first time I'd put a waistband on them so there was a bit of adjustment needed but it worked out well in the end.

I had a couple of fabric issues along the way as the fabric was narrower than I had expected so I didn't have enough meterage! I ended up traipsing off to Spotlight, yet again, to buy some more of the cotton twill and the linen cotton blend. But I got there in the end :-)

I've had this picture of Grace Kelly on my 'Style' Pinterest board for a long time and I think this is such an elegant look.
