In this video, I demonstrate how to safely wire brush a cast iron skillet. This skillet has been stripped to the bare iron and soaked in vinegar and water to remove rust. Wire wheeling is done only to smooth out minor surface irregularities.
In this video, you will notice the cooking surface becoming very shiny as I use the wire cup brush. This is residue from the wire brush being left in the skillet. This must be cleaned off. A piece of #00 steel wool with vinegar removes it well. Follow with soap and water and then season immediately.
