Hi everyone!

In this video I will be showing you how I made a Monitor Riser for my desk that will house both of my keyboards. The monitor mount that I had been using previously was alright for what doing what it was supposed to do (hold 2 monitors), however it left a few things to be desired. I wanted to have more space between the bottom of my monitors and the top of my desk, but could not adjust the risers to be higher because I maxed out the height.

I began this build by cutting down a piece of leftover wood from the desk project (3/4" tongue and groove plywood). I cut it to rough dimensions to ensure that I would have enough material to create the 3 leg pieces and 1 top piece. I then moved over to the table saw to finalize the dimensions because it makes more accurate cuts.

With all of the pieces cut, I was able to create a more accurate layout and then route out dados for the legs to be installed. I used a 1/2" straight cut bit (dado bit) to make multiple passes along each leg section. I went about a 1/16" deeper than the width of the legs so I could come back with a flush trim bit after the glue dried. When glueing the legs into place, I excluded the left leg so that I could route out an inlay for a (an?) usb hub.

I wanted to install a piece of plywood on the rear of the riser to enclose the keyboard 'garage'. I attached a scrap piece of wood to the top of the riser with clamps so that my router would have more support to rest against. With a rabbiting bit I created a recess for the plywood to slot into, and then cut the plywood out to its final dimensions of 4"x44". I primed the majority of the surface so that it didn't have to work around as many corners, and then glued in the back piece.

Finally, I added some cable management tie downs to the back and rubber bumpers on the bottom of the legs.
