While we were at Collina dei Poetic ([ Ссылка ]) enjoying the pasta that we had made earlier that day ([ Ссылка ]) and the wine they produce at this vineyard, one of the locals read out this pledge/commitment.
It is in a Romagnolo dialect. Susie White, from Insiders Abroad ([ Ссылка ]), very kindly transcribed it and has translated it into Italian and English. I have added English subtitles to the video, as best I can, but just scroll down here for the Italian and English translations.
In Romagnolo:
Impègn
Zarchê
s'l'è gióst
dê un séns mal ròbi
e capêi e fiòur, la tèra
una gòzzla d'aqua, l'òc de bò
e quèll ch'e' vêl
e quèll ch'u n còunta piò...
E intênt e' divent amêr
l'umòur de temp.
In Italian:
Impegno
Cercare di scoprire
se è giusto
dare un senso alle cose
e capire il fiore, la terra
una goccia d'acqua, l'occhio del bue
e ciò che vale
e ciò che non conta più...
Mentre diventa amaro
il sapore del tempo.
In English:
The Pledge
Try to discover
if it is right
to make sense of things
and understand the flower, the land,
a drop of water, the eye of an ox,
and what is worthwhile
and what doesn't matter anymore...
As the taste of time
becomes bitter.
