ভারতের সাধারণ মানুষের জন্য সাশ্রয়ী মূল্যে বিমানে যাতায়াত করতে পারে সেই লক্ষ্যে তার জীবনের সকল সঞ্চয় ও তার পরিবারের সকল সম্পত্তি বন্ধক রেখে এয়ারলাইন্স প্রতিষ্ঠায় বিনিয়োগ করে দেন এবং 2003 সালে গোপীনাথ এয়ার ডেকান নামে, একটি কম খরচের বিমান সংস্থা প্রতিষ্ঠা করেন । এয়ার ডেকান হল ভারতের সবচেয়ে কম খরচে এয়ারলাইন্স , এই পর্যন্ত এয়ার ডেকান এ এক টাকায় 3 লক্ষ মানুষ বিমানে যাতায়াত করতে পেরেছে এবং 70% মধ্যবিত্তরা বিমানে উঠতে পেরেছে ।
