At International Medical Corps, we believe that access to lifesaving healthcare is a human right, and we provide lifesaving medical relief and help strengthen local health systems in communities facing conflict, disease and natural disasters.
Often, this puts us in remote and difficult regions around the world. But sometimes there's a need for our expertise and services in the United States, where our headquarters is located.
After a natural disaster, communities usually have the resources and ability to meet the needs of people who have been affected. But following a significant disaster, such as some of the Category-4 and Category-5 hurricanes that have made landfall in Puerto Rico, Florida and the Carolinas, the impact can be so widespread that extra support is needed—especially during the days and weeks immediately following the storm—and that's where we come in.
Our experience providing healthcare and related services in difficult and low-resource settings, as well as our supply chain and logistics expertise and our emergency staff roster, means that we can hit the ground running and help communities that may not be used to the unusually harsh conditions they face after a devastating storm.
