J.J. Jackson was an American soul singer (born in the Bronx, NY), but he traveled to England to record "But It's Alright."
The song featured some of Britain's top jazz musicians of the day, including Terry Smith on guitar, Dick Morrissey on tenor sax and John Marshall on drums.
Co-written with a British songwriter named Pierre Tubbs, who later had a hit with "Right Back Where We Started From," recorded by Maxine Nightingale.
Although it wasn't a big hit when it was first released in 1966, charting in America at #22.
Three years later, in 1969, the song unexpectedly rose back to life and reached #45.
