The posting of this recording is prompted by the 40 anniversary of the death of Elvis Presley 16 Aug. That story leads the bulletin though it was the 17th in Australia.
Sydney radio station 2SM operated a large newsroom in the mid to late seventies offering a network service to several regional stations throughout NSW and the ACT. This recording serves as an example of how the main bulletin of the day – 15 minutes at noon – came 'down the line’ live from Sydney. First, you’ll hear a 60 second countdown followed by hourly time pips and a 7 second gap to allow stations to use individual themes supplied by 2SM. There are three out cues for 60 second commercial breaks. During this time the reader counts down the gap from 30 seconds.
