Subotica is home to the Jakab and Komor Square Synagogue, one of the finest pieces of Jewish architecture in the Art Nouveau style. It was there that Cantor Josef Basser would welcome the Shabbat with his fellow congregants. Cantor Basser perished in the Holocaust. But this recording of him singing 'Lecha Dodi,' the Jewish liturgy sung at sunset to welcome Shabbat, was miraculously preserved.
As we listen to Cantor Basser's voice, and look at the photos of the town with its recently restored synagogue, #WeRemember.
