If your destination is on the other side of the street or you took a wrong turn, a u-turn can help get you going in the right direction.
Before making a u-turn, assess the situation to ensure it is legal and safe.
A u-turn is illegal at the top of a hill, at a curve in the road, if you interfere with other traffic, or if there’s a sign that prohibits it.
Before turning, look both ways and yield to pedestrians and oncoming traffic.
You can make a u-turn at a traffic light, provided there is no sign saying otherwise.
Some intersections have a special u-turn light. This indicates that you can make the turn when safe.
If you have entered an intersection when the traffic light changes, complete your turn when oncoming traffic has cleared and it is safe.
Instead of making a u-turn, you could also go around the block to change directions.
