I've been teaching yoga now for over 22 years and I've come to notice that not every yoga pose is cool for everybody. That's why I went on a journey to explore why I was having back pain, even though I am an experienced yoga teacher. I found out that yes yoga is great, but sometimes there are yoga poses that can make you have more body pain. I was to the extent of using a walker, I was having so much pain. I explored chiropracter adjustments, sessions with three different physical therapits, and of course yoga and pilates movement systems. I came across Yoga for Low Back Care coursework through Yoga Vista Academy. There was a sale too! Bought the course, and started exploring all things with back yoga. Lucky for me, this way of teaching and doing yoga made total sense. I had a lot of fun learning this new way to do yoga for back pain, and started applying what I learned, to my own body, and then teaching it to my students. My students loved the outcomes of how they would feel after coming to my beginners yoga class (with a twist, now yoga for back care). It is my hope for you, that you too, find some relief of your upper back pain, and my desire that you also feel pain relief from lower back pain.

Remember, you don't have to be able to touch your toes, or bend like a pretzel to do yoga!
Back PAIN info:
* Back pain is the 2nd most sited reason people go to the doctor
* Back pain has a high occurance in veterans for a number of reasons
* And they are prescribed pills but it doesn't really help.
* Then comes fatigue, depression & quality of life goes down.
* Yoga can actually help the back pain
* 45% of veterans have military-connected disability
* 8% of adults in the US have back pain at some part of their life &
* 30% of people in the US in the next 3 months will have a short course of back pain
So this effects everyone.
This method of exercise
** reduces intensity of pain, depression, fatigue & medication use.
** pain interference with daily life. Quality of life & self-efficacy both went up with regular yoga practice.
