It's almost impossible to discuss plot structure with any writer without bringing up the Hero's Journey, Beowulf, The Three Act Structure, or The Snowflake Method. It seems like these are objectively good approaches to the craft. After all, these were invented by someone- some author, who must have had an amazing story to show for all their hard work and studies. But is that actually true? Don't most of these approaches, including the Hero's Journey, all come from an Audience's perspective? And couldn't that bias obscure some of the principles behind writing a great story if we're using them?
In this video, we explore the problems with using Joseph Campbell's framework for the hero's journey to write a story, and why coming from an Author's perspective instead will assist you in crafting a better story.

Most of us probably have no idea what we should be writing about. Have you ever tried to sit down and just write, only to find that the only thing your brain wants to do is ramble? Or worse, we freeze, staring at the screen with a shaky cursor and unsure what to write next.
Subtxt is a new way to write that starts you off with momentum: by defining the argument your story seeks to make, before you even sit down to write. By focusing on the argument, rather than on plot or action, you'll be able to discover the specific scenes that form the core of your story, and you'll be able to test whether your argument is as strong as it can be--making sure that your story is as strong and compelling as possible.
This matters because it gives you a clear purpose for your writing and helps you stay focused on what is most important to communicate to your audience. It also allows you to more easily identify areas where your story may be weaker and needs improvement. Overall, this approach can help you create a stronger, more effective piece of writing.
Now that you know the basics of Subtxt, try it out for yourself and see how it can help improve your writing!
