The Death of Stalin is one of the funniest political satires of modern cinema, but the underlying themes make the film special. In this analysis, I breakdown the political climate satirized by Armando Lannucci and how it's maintained by comfortable lies and enforced silence. We are often warned about politicians manipulating us with fear but rarely warned about politicians manipulating us with comfort. Friendly smiles mixed with comfortable lies can produce a lethal poison, a poison the ministers in The Death of Stalin know use to secure power.
