Ukraine to Field Prisoners to Fight Against Russia's Forces on the Frontline? | Russia Ukraine War
Ukrainian lawmakers have passed a bill in the parliament that allows some convicts to enlist in the army. The prisoners will get a chance at parole in exchange for joining the forces. However, the bill, which is yet to be signed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky into a law, exempts prisoners convicted for most serious crimes like the murder of two or more people, rape, sexual violence, crimes against national security, and serious corruption. The bill marks the country's bid to generate fresh manpower for its military which has been fighting Putin's forces for 26 months now. In April, Ukraine lowered the troop mobilisation age from 27 to 25, while the maximum age was increased to 60. Ukraine has also temporarily suspended consular services for men of military age living in other countries.
