Video from James May's Big Ideas where with a solar panel melt steel. The solar collectors absorb the energy of the solar electromagnetic radiation from the infrared to the ultraviolet wavelengths. It could be around 1,000 watts/ m2 depending the atmospheric conditions and the location.
This sunlight energy could be focused through a heliostats solar farm in one single point (a power tower) or it can focused in an insulated tubes(Dewar tube) through rows of parabolic collectors. The pipes are linked to the panels by swivel joint for high temperatures that lets to orientate and rotate the ensemble. If you want to know more about the applications of swivel joint, feel free to contact us.
