If your having trouble at the top of your pull ups/chin up...then work on the Flexed arm hangs. With my clients I build strength in the top positions, esp. when they are trying for their first chin/pull up. I also usually start people with chins first as they are easier for most people. Then progress to thumbless pull up. Some call them tactical pull ups. Also I didn't include neutral grip, palms facing each other. Most people only have access to a straight bar. For safety, if you are just starting get a spotter, then progress to the chair. :)
