Today, I’m in my hometown Bikaner, which is a city of age old traditions and culture. The usual perspective of people when they hear anything about Rajasthan is hot breezes, deserts, villages, draughts and so on. But in reality, this city is home to many visionaries. Many popular brands like Haldiram’s, Bikaji foods etc. are from this heritage city of Bikaner.
Which takes us to this video in which I’ll be decoding the business of an 8 decades old Sharbat selling brand ‘Chunnilal Tanvar’, located at the Jail Road in Bikaner.
Started in 1939 by Chunnilal Tanvar, this shop in now handled by his son Shri Vidhan Singh Tanvar, who finds pride in protecting the values and business practices his father taught him. The same values are passed on to his sons and grandson, who too are keen in continuing their ancestral business.
Being a seasonal business, Vidhan Singh ji spends most of his time reading books and is interested in archeology and philosophy. He finds content in what he has and is unbothered by the competition.
This gave a fresh perspective about a different way of doing business which does not run solely for profits but prioritising the values and practices passed on by our ancestors.
Hope you like the video, if so do let me know in the comments. I would love to continue to unravel more such business in the coming episodes of Business Unplugged.
