In this Lidar flyover we follow the newly discovered Roman road from Ixworth in Suffolk to Scole in Norfolk. This road was part of Antonine Itinerary IX – the Roman equivalent of satnav. It was the discovery of this road that identified Ixworth as the lost Roman town of Sitomagus.
Leaving Ixworth, our route initially follows Peddars Way before branching off at Bardwell for Scole. Our road takes a fairly direct course through the pleasant Suffolk countryside passing Hepworth, Redgrave (across the village green), Palgrave and Stuston. The last obvious trace is on the second fairway of Diss Golf Course. We then turn left over the River Waveney bridge for the Roman settlement at Scole.
