“In The BuzzBag” is a to and fro travelog between two remote continents, two ultimately different yet akin metropolises: New York and İstanbul. The sounds, colors, textures, rhythms, attitudes, melodies, chants of urban tides-all captured in a stateof the art studio in İstanbul. Funk and hip-hop subdued by the humble yet powerful riffs of the bağlama, the notes flowing smoothly out of a Turkish style clarinet amid the reggae beats and dub poetry of a Brooklynite. The call and response, the highs and olws of delicate singing in both languages, Turkish melodies charged byy the funky electric bass and the guitars, the powerful James Brown-like horns riding high above the darbukas and the bells... This is Brooklyn Funk Essentials in the company of Laço Tayfa-an embryonic Turkish band. This is a hybrid of a different nature where the idio-syncrasies of each city are humbled by a common language. This is blues both American and Turkish, this is essential Brooklyn funk but gypsy funk as well from the back streets of İstanbul; this is acid-jazz and funk-jazz; this is ska gypsy style, this is reggae, this is dub and beyond. Listen with your mind and file it under, well... just music."
