‘Chin-Tah Sil’ is a dance from the Uyghur people, a Turkic ethnic group now living primarily in Xinjiang, China. The dancer tests her skill and creates her own rhythmic accompaniment with ordinary household items, a practice common in Central Asian dance. The next dance originates from Uzbekistan, a former Soviet Republic, home to the largest Turkic ethnic group in Central Asia. ‘Nargiz,’ performed to a contemporary love song, is a dance in the Ferghana style—the most lyrical of the three Uzbek dance styles.
Choreographed by: Carolyn Krueger
