Texas Hill Country -- RV Camping
The Two Tired Teachers give you an overview of the Hill Country of Texas. The parks that will be featured in the next month or two are Lost Maples State Park, Guadalupe River State Park, the Hill Country State Natural Area, South Llano River State Park, Meridian State Park, and McGown Valley COE Park on Lake Whitney.
All of these are very popular places to stay. We were there in the fall and January, and the parks had very few empty spots. Lost Maples is a small park. We strongly suggest that you make your reservations early to get a site at Lost Maples. That is even more important if you are going to Lost Maples in the fall.
Guadalupe River is an extremely popular park in the summer. The river is great for tubing or canoeing or kayaking. Lots of people enjoy Guadalupe State Park for the summer water activities. At any time of the year, it's a pretty park.
We had our first visit to the Hill Country Natural Area. It was surprisingly full when we camped in an equestrian site there. It has miles and miles of trails. We enjoyed biking on some of those, but we do want you to use caution if you are there in warmer weather when snakes are active. Of course, there are rattlesnakes in that area.
This was our second visit to South Llano River State Park. The first thing you need to know is that the park isn't in Llano, TX. It's in Junction, just off of Interstate 10. It's a pretty park. Once again, we do suggest you have reservations if you plan on camping there.
One of our favorite parks is Meridian State Park. This was our fourth visit to the park, and our first video of the park. It's a small park, but it is another popular one.
Finally, we visited an Army Corps of Engineers Park when we were at Lake Whitney this time. We stayed at McGown Valley COE Park. It's one of many COE parks around Lake Whitney. We should mention that Lake Whitney State Park is also in the area. Since it is relatively close to the Metroplex, reservations are recommended.
