In this tutorial, I will show you how to prepare to sew seams on your beaded, sequined, embroidered, and generally embellished fabric.

The fabric that I am using in this video is a sheer mesh with all three elements - beading, sequin, and machine embroidery.

You will need approximately a quarter of a yard to 1/2 of a yard of cotton muslin. The muslin will be placed between the two layers of fabric you plan to join with a seam to prevent the sequin/bead/embroidery detail from getting tangled or pulled.

You will also need a basting needle, as well as high contrast basting thread.

This tutorial will show you how to baste together your seams, in preparation to remove any sequins, beads, or embellishment from your seam allowance.

Particularly if you are using a very heavily encrusted and embellished sheer mesh fabric, preparing your seams prior to sewing on your sewing machine is a crucial element in achieving a clean finish on your garment. This video explains how to do exactly that.
