Dir. Eran Riklis, 104 min, Drama
In this coming-of-age drama, Eyad, who grew up in an Arab town in Israel, is given the chance to go to a prestigious Jewish boarding school in Jerusalem. He desperately tries to fit in with his Jewish schoolmates and Israeli society. After falling in love with Naomi, a Jewish girl, he has to leave school when their relationship is uncovered and he discovers that he will have to sacrifice his identity in order to be accepted.
This film, based on Arab-Israeli journalist Sayed Kashua's semiautobiographical screenplay, is a plea for understanding between both sides of an intractable political divide. It has been nominated for four Israeli Academy Awards, including Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor.
