For lack of a better word, I wanted to make a low budget face mill for fly cutting some cast aluminum plates for my next molding press project. The design I came up with was focused on ease of regrinding the cutters, which worked somewhat. By positioning them properly, I would be able to obtain 3 rake angles while only having to grind a simple 30° on the end of the high speed steel (broken tap shank) blanks. When facing the cast aluminum, I was able to take a .030" depth of cut. Any deeper would gum up the inserts.
