Do you help or hinder spiritually, fellow believers? While we all should be weary of evil people pretending to be Christians, we also must be able to discern and help and strengthen weaker, errant, and ignorant Believers. Paul was always looking for ways to get people stronger in the faith. In this passage we can see several ways that he was able to do this. Following his example we can also learn how to help rather than hinder others in their Spiritual walk.
In this passage Paul helped a Godly Married couple go from a life centered around business to one centered around ministry, encouraging OT devout Jews to convert to Christ and the NT, found ways to enhance his own ministry by taking full advantage of his position in Israel's covenant with God by taking a (Nazarite) vow, encouraging local churches by testifying of God's work among the gentiles and distant lands, and also indirectly helping Apollos in ministry because of the Ministry training he gave to other disciples.
In this sermon we also take special note of the vow that Apostle Paul took in order to strengthen and enhance is Gospel ministry. We also note that it was most likely the Nazarite Vow and how a believing Jew like Paul could use his Israelite covenant to enhance his New Testament wittiness.
Preached: October 14, 2018 Sunday Night. By Pastor John Young, at Edgecliff Baptist Church, Spokane Valley, WA.
