Here's the latest in my series of Beatles string quartets - "In My Life" from the 1965 album Rubber Soul. This one is a true Lennon/McCartney collaboration although John Lennon is the principal writer. Lyrics written by John Lennon and music written by the duo. Notable on the original recording is a harpsichord sounding solo by producer George Martin which is actually just a sped up piano. It was rather fun to transcribe this solo with a few minor adjustments to make it possible to be played by a real violin player. I gave the left hand to the cello.
Like the others, this one is playable by a real string quartet and I took special care to avoid breaking the rules of four part writing as much as possible such as not leaving spaces larger than an octave, avoiding parallel fifths, and not crossing voices. All of the double stops are within the range of the instruments.
This is the first one of the series where I used the Garritan instrument sounds - I was hesitant to do it at first because the rhythm is not quite as precise as the MIDI and SoftSynth audio, but I'm happy with the result and plan to use this sound set for the rest of the arrangements I do. The resulting timbre is more authentic and less screechy than the other sound sets so I hope you will enjoy it.
Arrangement made with Finale and mixing and reverb added with Ableton Live.
