"The situation is not easy to handle. This is a fact. I think there have to be some changes at a government level. It is not just a question of centres. The centres are - we also work in Caltanissetta - they are all at their limits, actually they have been stretched way beyond their limits. The centres receive them bit by bit as the migrants are brought in, but it is clear that the more there are, the harder it is to keep the situation under control."

Up to now they never bring out results out, we are waiting for it, waiting, waiting. Up to now we are so tired of waiting. They say to us everything must be small, small, must go slow, slow, so we are still waiting for it."

STORYLINE
Migrant centres on the Italian island of Sicily were stretched way beyond their limits following the significant increase of arrivals in recent weeks, a volunteer at the migrant centre of Mineo, near Catania, said on Tuesday.
The Mineo centre is home to 4,000 asylum seekers, who are living there whilst their cases are processed.
On Tuesday, they were joined by survivors of the shipwreck in which as many as 950 migrants drowned in the Mediterranean on Sunday.
The Mineo centre, located on the grounds of a former US Navy base, is the island's largest.
But even so, according to a volunteer working at the centre from Young Missionaries (Gioventu in Missionarie) group, Enos Nolli, the situation there was "not easy to handle" with the capacity stretched way above its limit.
Nolli urged the government to step up its effort to tackle the problem.
Some of the centre's residents have been staying there for months, waiting for their paperwork to be processed and with new asylum seekers arriving there every day, the waiting time is not set to become any shorter.
