Alora Young is a junior at Hillsboro Highschool. She is an IB diploma candidate and a graduate of the Iowa Young Writers Studio. She serves as the chief editor of the Burro Underground, Hillsboro's own literary magazine, and she is published in the Signal Mountain Review. She is the founder of Above Ground, an organization striving to increase equity in Nashville by combining creative writing and black history. In her free time, Alora enjoys playing chess and participating in theatre productions. She hopes to serve on the United States Supreme Court.

The Nashville Youth Poet Laureate is a joint program of the Office of the Mayor, Metro Arts, Nashville Public Library, Nashville Public Library Foundation, Urban Word, and Southern Word. The Nashville Youth Poet Laureate program aims to identify young writers and leaders who are committed to civic and community engagement, diversity and inclusion, and youth voice across Nashville.
