2009 Toyota Corolla Cold start has this "grinding"/"gear"/"Chain" noise at 00:10, it is not rattling noise. It did happen twice in a row after first time start up.
It seems like only happened when it is cold 40F or after car parked over night. Symptoms are as follows:
1) Normally happen at 1st time start on cold weather but occasionally also happen on second time or third time (after 1 -2 min from 1st start- I did this a a test) provided the engine is not warm up.
2) It did not happen after engine has been warmed up to normal temperature.
It sounds more like, the car has started and I try to start again but not exactly like that but similar gear hitting noise - it is not rattle noise.
Questions:
Is this starter issue? (the solenoid/gear not able to pull back soon enough from fly wheel?)
Is this the VVT-i Gear as described in TSB (no oil in gear or oil hole is clogged) but the sound is not rattling noise.
Is this timing chain loose or timing chain tensioner issue?
So far, this only happen when the weather is Cold and car run well, no rough idle or misfire.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks for any comments, input and suggestion.
