Nitara is a vampire who, much like Shang Tsung, has to prey on the life of others in order to remain alive, except that she requires blood rather than souls or life energy. Rather than being evil, Nitara is depicted as being rather self-serving and morally neutral. She has a distinctly gothic appearance, and has long been on a quest to separate her own realm from Outworld.

Megan Fox is the facial model for Nitara, featured in her own character video revealing Nitara after the character was leaked online beforehand.
An interaction between Nitara and Kung Lao makes a reference to Jennifer's Body, a cult classic horror-comedy starring Fox as the titular character, as well as Jen Reyland in Mortal Kombat: Conquest.
Interactions between Nitara and Ashrah make references to their past rivalry in the original timeline.
