Hey everyone, Naota here bringing you updates of my current project. I am working on an arcade cabinet. The idea was given to me when a friend of mine was getting rid of an old Kiosk that a local telephone company used to demo DSL with.
As you can see the kiosk is a standup cabinet with a monitor and self. It reminded me of the old school arcade cabinets that you would see at the mall or in a restaurant. I did some research and I saw that many people have built their own cabinets to play arcade emulators.
So far I have an old computer inside of the kiosk. The computer is an AMD Athlon XP 3000+ processor with 1 Gig of ram and 150 gigabytes of storage. It is running windows XP and will run MAME as the arcade software.
I have also created a box out of plywood. The box is where the buttons and joysticks are going to be installed. I have ordered 2 HAPP Super Joysticks that are 4/8 way switchable and 14 buttons. The joysticks and buttons will be connected to the computer using an IPAC keyboard controller so that I can get the authentic arcade experience.
I still have work to do on this project. I need to fix the issues with the cuts on the control box, I need to replace the current shelf with a new shelf so that the box can be supported properly and I need to get the mame software with front end running correctly. The final touches will be paint but I haven't decided what kind of paint scheme that I want.
I will post more updates as they come. This project should be fun. Who knows if this is a success I will build a full sized arcade cabinet complete with 4 player controls, track ball, spinner and working coin door.
