BIOGRAPHY
By day she is the Eastern European-hailing singer-songwriter Aimi, with a procession of mainstream chart smashes under her belt. But when night falls, under her given name, she transforms into club doyen Adina Butar - the fierce ruling diva from Deva, western Romania. Shifting her sound underground, through her captivating vocals, moving lyrics and dusky, sultry stage presence, she's begun to capture the attention of clubbers around the world. The future beckons bright for Adina - it's one that shows all the signs of delivering a new and exceptional vocal property to planet EDM.
From the earliest points of her singing career, Adina has sought to fortify her commercial output by interweaving it with electronic dance themes. Through tracks like 'Out of My Way' and 'Power of Goodbye', she's been subtly subverting the Eastern European pop scene, working her own EDM stimuli into its mainstream.
In the latter half of 2011 she broached SMG's CEO, Markus Schulz with some EDM-angled demoes. "The first time I heard Adina's voice I was extremely impressed", he says. "But the second time I was entirely blown away. The way in which she sings and writes her songs has this natural, raw, impossible-to-fake emotion to it. It displays incredible depth, and vocally her range is nothing short of astounding. She has the lyrics, she has the look, and, most importantly, she's got the voice - you can't ask for more from a singer. I very much wanted a vocal element to join SMG's talent contingent. I'm delighted it's happened so early in our history."
Adina will form a significant vocal cornerstone to Schulz's forthcoming artist album (which is scheduled to appear September 2012), singing on at least 3 of its tracks. Moving forward she will be storming stages at clubs and around the world, as part of the Schulz Music Group showcases, as well as her own standalone performances.
Early history: born in Deva, Romania, Adina was already writing songs by her 16th birthday. Forming and performing in several early girl groups (including Puff and Hollywood), she went solo in 2010, recording a track with DJ LLP. With its underlying house/dance edge, throughout the spring of that year 'Out of My Way' became the most heavily rotated track on Romanian radio. In early 2011 'Power of Love' saw another substantial move in Adina's EDM transition, when the track was given an extended mix and gave the young Romanian her first sizeable club smash.
A woman born to be on stage, Adina lives by the ethos that "music is not a job, not just a hobby, but her way of life".
