Build Instructions:
Start by measuring the short side of the tempered hardboard and mark a line at 5 and a quarter inches, 10 and a half inches, 15 and ¾ inches, and 21 inches.
Now do the same thing on the other short side of the board. Next cut each of those lines on the tempered hardboard into four five and a quarter inch wide strips.
Take one of the remaining four foot pieces and measure exactly two feet from the end on either side of it. Cut that piece in half. These pieces will be the bottom of your sidewalls for the panel.
Cutting The Wood Frame:
Start by taking one of your 1 x 3 x 8 pieces of wood and measuring exactly halfway to 4 feet. Mark a line and then cut that piece in half. Then take the other 1 x 3 x 8 foot piece of wood and measure 22 and a half inches and mark a line at that point and then measure another 22.5 inches to 45 inches and mark a line at that point. These will be the top and bottom pieces of our wood frame. Lastly measure one last 22 and half inch piece from your remaining 1 x 3 and cut it down to size. This will be the middle brace of your wood frame.
Assemble The Frame:
Start by drilling 1 pilot hole using a small drill bit. Drill pilot holes in the bottom right corner of your frame and then screw in your first screw. Next drill your second pilot hole and screw in your second screw. Next, continue drilling pilot holes and drilling in your screws around the frame until you have created a rectangle. Next measure halfway down your frame and mark the two foot mark on both of the long sides of the frame. Drill two pilot holes on each side of the midway point of your frame and then screw in two screws on either side of your frame to attach the middle brace.
Attaching Sidewalls:
Begin by squeezing some wood glue along one side of your wood frame. Place the corresponding side wall onto the frame and use your clamps to hold the side wall in place making sure the bottom and sides of the sidewall are flush with the frame. Next use your small finishing nails and a hammer to carefully hammer in 6-8 nails on the long sides and 4 nails on the short sides of your frame. Continue this process around all four sides of your frame.
Install Weed Barrier Fabric:
Place the panel face up on the floor. Cut out a 2x4 foot rectangle of weed fabric. Place the weed fabric on the inside of the panel. Use your stapler to staple the weed barrier fabric to the wood frame.
Next place your two acoustic insulation batts into the panel.
Next, place your fabric out on a flat surface. Make sure you have enough fabric to cover the entire panel plus 7 inches extra for the longs sides and 9 inches extra for the top and bottom.Carefully, take your panel and place it insulation side down on top of the middle of your fabric. Next fold and pull the fabric tight along one of the long sides of your panel. Make a little fold back under itself to cover the wood frame siding. Staple the fabric along the long side of the panel making sure to pull the fabric as tight as you can and to smooth out any billows in the fabric as you go. Do the same process to the other long side of the panel. Next we will fold our top and bottom sides. Start at one corner of the top of your panel. Fold the piece of the side fabric in under the top of the fabric. Try to make the fold as smooth as possible so none of the fabric is bunched up. Pull the fabric on the top side of the panel up and over the folded side fabric. Staple 3-4 staples along the side and corner. Then staple across the top of the panel frame making sure to pull the fabric as tight as possible and to smooth out any billows or creases in the fabric. Repeat this same process on the bottom of the panel. Now your panel is almost finished. The next step is adding the i hooks and picture wire.
Measure 11 inches down from the top inside of your panel and mark a dot in the center of the inside frame. Do the same thing for the other side of your panel. Use a ⅛ inch drill bit to drill the pilot holes for your hooks. Install the ihook by twisting them in by hand. Next, cut at least 2 and a half feet of your picture wire. Then take one end and loop it through one of your hooks. Wrap the wire several times around itself to hold it in place. Then repeat the same process on the other side with the opposite ihook. Lastly, use a hammer to hammer in any staples that may be sticking out on the back of your panel. Now your panel is finished and is ready for hanging!
