Easter and its Symbols - Richard L. Worsnop, Editorial Research Reports
Painting and reading by Jacob Alexander - Minister @GospelofRAK
Easter has a distinct overlay with paganism.
The word Easter is derived from "Eostre" or "Eastre" the Anglo-Saxon name for the goddess of spring. And many other of our tenacious Easter customs and symbols are also heritages from a dim pre-Christian past - the rabbits, eggs and other fertility symbols and the parading of new finery.
No such controversy attends Easter's other major symbol of rebirth and renewal, the egg.
One Easter custom that many Christians would gladly abandon is the practice of tying its date to the vagaries of the lunar calendar.
