Leaders from major religions gathered to meet Tuesday to discuss interfaith dialogue. Leaders of Muslim, Christian, Jewish, and Hindu faiths discussed the importance of keeping communication open. The event was held at the Oblate School of Theology and organized by the University of the Incarnate Word Office of Mission and Ministry.
Imam Abdur-Rahim Muhammad recently moved to San Antonio from New York and is thrilled with the reilgious progress. To see that this is happening in one of the fastest growing cities in America is very gratifying, say Muhammad.
If you look very deeply at most of the world's religions, you see that this epic of compassion and reachout out to one's neighbor is at the very heart of these traditions, said Dr. Scott C. Alexander, professor of Islamic-Catholic relations at the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago.
Organizers hope the conference leads to greater tolerance for diversity in San Antonio.
It's about how we can all work together to bring about the good of every human being on this planet and outside this planet. All of creation, said Sister Walter Maher, Vice President of Mission and Ministry at the University of the Incarnate Word.
