CINCINNATI (WKRC) - A woman is charged with involuntary manslaughter for allegedly giving a man fentanyl instead of cocaine. Amanda Witt is also charged with tampering with evidence and corrupting another with drugs.
Richard VandeRyt was an attorney. He asked Witt, his friend and former client, for cocaine, according to the Hamilton County Prosecutor's Office. Instead, he got fentanynl and overdosed on March 16.
"Rich VandeRyt was a respected member of the Cincinnati Bar and his death is a loss to our community," said Prosecutor Joe Deters in a news release. "Sadly, we are seeing more cases where people think they are ingesting one substance when in reality it is something much deadlier."
If convicted of all charges, Witt could face more than 20 years in prison.
