In this video, I explore the positive aspects and some areas of improvement for my inflatable hot tub. I find numerous features that outweigh the drawbacks of the tub. Additionally, I provide insights into the reasoning behind opting for **bromine as the chosen the main sanitizing agent. As the tub approaches its second winter season, it continues to perform admirably. I also discuss the installation of some aftermarket lighting options.

**In the video, we feature two top-notch hot tub maintenance products: Spa Guard Enhanced Shock, a chlorine-based shock compatible with bromine-sanitized tubs, and Spa Choice Re-Energize, a bromine-compatible, non-chlorine shock. Understanding their impact on water chemistry is crucial. Before non-chlorine shocks became widely available, shocking a bromine spa was typically done using a different method. One common approach was to use a chlorine-based shock, even though bromine is the primary sanitizer in the spa.
Here's how it generally worked:
1. Chlorine-Based Shock Treatment: Spa owners would use a chlorine shock treatment designed for hot tubs and spas. This shock would introduce a burst of chlorine into the water, raising the chlorine level temporarily.
2. Oxidation of Contaminants: The chlorine shock would oxidize and eliminate organic contaminants in the water, similar to the way it works in pools.
3. Impact on Bromine Levels: While chlorine was effective in oxidizing contaminants, it could also interact with bromine in the water. This interaction might cause a temporary increase in bromide ion levels (the inactive form of bromine) as chlorine and bromine competed for the same space.
4. Bromine Replenishment: After the shock treatment, additional bromine tablets or products were added to replenish the active bromine levels, ensuring ongoing sanitization.
It's important to note that using a chlorine shock in a bromine spa could disrupt the balance of the bromine system, and it wasn't the ideal method. With the advent of non-chlorine shock treatments, spa owners have a more suitable option for shocking their bromine-based systems without introducing chlorine into the mix.
It is recommended you carefully read/follow all instructions and warnings from hot tub manufacturer. Always keep chemicals stored safely and practice all safety procedures& Always follow the specific recommendations and guidelines for your spa's sanitizer system.
