Road Test Editor Brian Normile takes you on a chilled-out tour of the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6, highlighting some of the many things we like about Hyundai’s latest electric vehicle as well as its few annoyances.
Some of our likes include the Ioniq 6’s swoopy exterior styling, which is a radical departure from the Minecraftian Ioniq 5 SUV save for the shared pixelated exterior lighting elements. That aerodynamic exterior makes the Ioniq 6 very efficient, but it’s also a sportier car to drive than the Ioniq 5. It’s worth noting, however, that some competitors still do the whole EV sports sedan thing better than the Ioniq 6. Hyundai is also giving the bonkers N treatment to the Ioniq 5 first, which will make the Ioniq 6 seem far more sedate.
Inside, the experience is positive as long as you’re seated up front. The stylish interior features useful and easy-to-use tech and, while less utilitarian than the Ioniq 5, remains quite functional. Unfortunately, if you move to the back, you’ll face the consequences of the swoopy greenhouse, with minimal headroom for adults and front seats so low to the floor that adult passengers won’t be able to slide their feet under them to steal extra legroom.
The Hyundai Ioniq 6 is a radical departure from its Ioniq 5 sibling but overall is definitely still another hit for the automaker.
