Surface tension is a concept which explains why some insects can skate on the surface of water and why a drop of water forms into a sphere. Surface tension makes the surface of liquid looks like an elastic skin in a state of tension.
Any line drawn on the surface is staggered on by two equal and opposite forces. As an analogy, if we cut the skin of a blown-up balloon, the rubber draws away from the cut due to the action of the two forces.
In this video we shown another example in the case of a loop of thread in a soap film. If the film in the loop is punctured, the surface tension acts on the loop radially and the thread loop becomes a circle.
