It was reported some time ago that Returnal players en-mass didn't finish the game. This is nothing new for videogames as a large number of players regardless of the game in question don't actually finish the games they play. However, in Returnal's case, the situation is more severe as the number of completion is extremely low even for a difficult game like it.
What clearly went wrong here was the original purpose of the game which clearly went in a more art house direction to target only hardcore players rather than focus on the game being easily accessible for everyone. This is why the game saw huge diminishing returns in both sales and reception of general consumers.
