Nasa has released a spectacular video from its Solar Dynamics Observatory of a flare erupting from the sun.
The eruption, which Nasa described as "graceful" on their YouTube channel, took place on April 2nd 2014 and reached its peak at 15:05 GMT.
Solar flares are powerful bursts of radiation.
Nasa classified the flare as an M6.5 or mid-level. M-class flare are ten times less powerful than the most intense flares, which are labelled X-class.
According to Nasa, harmful radiation from a flare cannot pass through the Earth's atmosphere to physically affect humans on the ground although they can disturb the atmosphere in the layer were GPS and communications signals travel.
