A foreign cargo ship WILSON SKAW ran aground at Ennishöfði in Húnaflói, Iceland April 18. The crew is doing well.
The WILSON SKAW is a fertilizer carrier. She was on her way from Hvammstangi to Hólmavík when it ran aground. The cargo ship is about 4000 gross tons and about 113 meters long.
The guard ship FREYJA was stationed in Skagafjörður when the announcement about the beach was received and was immediately called out, as was the crew of the Coast Guard's helicopter. Then the rescue ship of the Accident Prevention Society Landsbjargar on Skagaströnd was also asked to proceed to the scene.
The weather on site is perfect, and the captain says that the crew is doing well. The Coast Guard has alerted the Environmental Protection Agency about the grounding. Divers have inspected the hull of the vessel.
