Anytime you receive an order, you always start with the medication rights and checking your scope of practice. Learn how to do that using the drug information provided on facility parenteral manuals.

Specialized Clinical Competencies involve additional education and evaluation. In the health authority that I work in, this is an important step to independent practice with IVP drugs.

Learn about how to draw up medications, assess for the medication rights, and how to infuse with compatible infusions and with a saline lock. If you had a drug that was incompatible, disconnect the IV, and follow the procedure for a saline lock administration before reconnecting and reestablishing the incompatible infusion.
