An easy example of a passive vibration isolation system includes 3 components: a remoted mass (payload), a spring, and a damper. The payload and the spring stiffness outline the frequency of the isolation system. The spring (isolator) reduces the magnitude of floor vibrations to the remoted payload, whilst the damper dissipates the vibrations amplified withinside the isolation gadget. Passive vibration isolation structures are rather affordable and powerful at dampening high-frequency vibrations, however won't be suitable for applications in which low-frequency vibrations are a concern. Passive vibration isolation structures have an extended settling time and are sometimes hard to control. We call an optical table without pneumatic isolation ridg-eid. This is damped purely via the mass. We call a table with air suspension a pneumatic table. Both are passive vibration isolation systems. Let's take a closer look at the different isolation properties of the tables. In the graph we see three curves. All optical tables isolate well at high frequencies, but a pneumatic table generally has better properties at lower frequencies.
Active vibration isolation systems including a feedback system, that is checking the position of the breadboard with integrated digital sensors. Vibrations can be suppressed more precisely and quickly via actuators and the feedback option. These are used for more sensitive optical equipment’s at low frequencies. For comparison, our human ear can perceive frequencies from 20 Hz to 20 kHz. Sensors record vibration inputs in all six degrees of freedom, while a digital control unit converts the measured vibration data into digital signals. The controller then sends these signals to the actuators, which cancel out the vibrations and create an equal and opposite force.
