South Africa's ambassador to the UN Jerry Matjila has moments ago concluded a meeting with the UN Secretary General to explain South Africa's decision to withdraw from the International Criminal Court.
Earlier today, defence Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula affirmed South Africa's sovereign right to withdraw from the ICC.
Her comment follows criticism from SADC member state Botswana, which issued a statement this week saying South Africa's decision is regrettable. Cabinet faces a Constitutional Court challenge brought by the DA, saying South Africa has an obligation to uphold human rights.
