Larry Schoenwald served in Vietnam with the US Army. The Da Nang air base of the helicopter company he served was relatively quiet for the first 6 months of his tour but lost many helicopters in the increased combat. As part of his company's mission, Schoenwald was part of the crew charge with recovering downed helicopters from combat sites.

This oral history was recorded in New Town, ND on August 24, 2017. The interview was conducted by Bob Dambach of Prairie Public Broadcasting as part of the Prairie Memories The Vietnam Years project.
